Sharing leads to better solutions.

Triangle Tech Night

If you are passionate about technology, and enjoy networking with others who share that passion, then join us for the first Triangle Tech Night! This event is all about technology, fun, food, and drinks. As a community-driven event, Triangle Tech Night attendees help drive the process: attendees suggest topics they would like to learn about, they help gather presenters for those topics, and then they vote on which topics they would most like to see next.

Topics for our first event include:

Augmented Virtual Reality for Today & Beyond

Presented by Chris Becom

Machine Learning, Virtual and Augmented Reality were key themes in this year’s Google's I/O and Apple's WWDC conferences. At WWDC, Apple introduced ARKit, a new framework that provides advanced augmented reality capabilities in its upcoming operating system iOS 11. Not only is ARKit proved to be powerful, developers have found that it is relatively straightforward to utilize. During this presentation, we will review the recent trends in Augmented Reality, examine the ARKit API with a demo of example applications, and explore possible directions for AR in the upcoming months and possible years.

J.A.R.V.I.S. - A Virtual Front Desk

Presented by Marc Denning

See a live demo and find out more about Cardinal's virtual front desk assistant that allows employees to schedule expected visitors, receive updates on their arrival, and get notified of unexpected guests. J.A.R.V.I.S. is a distributed system built entirely with JavaScript and includes an API layer, a Slack bot, and an Electron front-end running on a Raspberry Pi. This session will explore architectural considerations when building a Slack bot, cloud deployment on Microsoft Azure, and constraints of running and delivering apps for the Raspberry Pi.

While topics for our first event will be delivered by team members from Cardinal's Raleigh office, we are looking forward to gathering feedback at the event from those in the tech community on local technology experts, as well as potential topics for future events.
