Business Analysis Foundations II

Continuing the Business Analysis Foundations series, this PMI approved course uses lectures and exercises to provide core knowledge of the IT Business Analysis process.  Participants will learn to identify and write use cases, explore the basics of testing, and receive an overview of the Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Unified Process Language (UML) diagramming.

Who Should Attend?

This course is appropriate for anyone in a role requiring business analysis skills, such as defining problems, obtaining/analyzing information, and writing good requirements.  It is an excellent foundational course for the novice or self-taught business analyst, as well as a refresher course for more seasoned business analysts. 

This course is also appropriate for System Analysts, Developers, and other IT professionals interested in expanding their role into the business area.

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of use cases in documenting requirements
  • Understand who uses and works with use cases
  • Identify and define use case components
  • Write a basic use case
  • Identify the Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Recognize UML diagram categories and key diagram types
  • Create a basic UML diagram 
  • Define the Business Analyst’s role in testing
  • Identify and define the different types and phases of testing.
  • Differentiate between a test plan and a test case
  • Write a basic test case
  • Understand the key points of test execution
  • Identify testing defects
  • Manage test results
  • Understand the Rational Unified Process (RUP)
  • Differentiate between Waterfall and Iterative development approaches
  • Understand the key elements and principles of RUP
  • Be familiar with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) and the Business Analysis Book of Knowledge (BABOK)
