May 26, 2004: Enterprise-wide XP: An Oxymoron?

Abstract

This session will walk through some of the pitfalls (and pratfalls) to avoid when trying to roll out XP to an entire organization and discuss when, or if, a company-wide roll-out of XP is the right thing to do. Examples of using XP well and not-so well will be presented to help provide others plan the use of XP in their organization.

Bio

John Huston President and Principal Consultant for IT Reality Check (www.itrealitycheck.com), has 16+ years industry experience in a variety of leadership roles including managing complex IT development projects, process development and deployment, project management and strategic architecture development. Prior to founding IT Reality Check, Mr. Huston has served most recently in the role of IT Director at a leading telecommunications company where he led a team for the company wide roll out of eXtreme Programming (XP) to over 4000 IT employees and business unit personnel across 6 geographic locations. During the roll out he trained organizations, performed on-site project mentoring, facilitated Release Planning and prototyping sessions using .NET and worked at all levels of the organization to identify and overcome cultural obstacles in the adoption of XP. John has also led a variety of software development teams of 115+ people, many of them geographically dispersed, on projects in web development, database management, order/process automation and 3rd-party software integrations.
