Business Analysis Foundations I

Description

This PMI approved course uses lectures and exercises to provide core knowledge of the IT Business Analysis process.  Participants will learn why this field is becoming increasingly important to the success of IT projects, and will gain a foundation of skills needed to analyze business processes and to contribute to effective solutions

Who Should Attend?

Self-taught Business Analysts and other business professionals interested in learning a structured approach to defining problems and creating requirements to support solutions for those problems.  System Analysts, Developers, and other IT professionals interested in expanding their role into the business area. 

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

    • Define Business Analysis
    • Understand the problem and solution domains
    • Define the Business Analyst’s role, key tasks, and skills
    • Understand elicitation -- the process of discovering requirements through communication with stakeholders
    • Identify stakeholders and perform a stakeholder analysis
    • Ask effective questions when working with stakeholders
    • Plan and facilitate effective meetings
    • Identify and define business processes
    • Diagram existing (current state, “as-is”) business processes
    • Analyze existing processes to identify improvements, and diagram the new (future state, “to-be”) processes
    • Understand what a Brown Paper session is and how to use it to gather requirements
    • Identify requirements
    • Understand basic concepts of requirements
    • Identify characteristics of a quality requirement
    • Explain the overall process of developing requirements
    • Explain basic concepts of requirements traceability and change control
    • Be familiar with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) and the Business Analysis Book of Knowledge (BABOK)
