Good requirements management involves traceability.  Traceability provides three critical components of requirements management.
1.  Scope
2.  Coverage
3.  Impact
First, traceability allows you to truly know and understand the scope of the project being worked.  Second, you have the ability to see if all the requirements are covered and accounted for.  Lastly, you have the ability to see the "real" impact to a project when requirements change.

Jeff Lucas is currently a Manager in Custom Delivery at Relizon in Dayton, OH. His previous working experience includes eight years at NCR and consulting positions with Rational and Cardinal Solutions. Jeff has been responsible for leading multi-million dollar projects using the Rational Unified Process and tools.
